Marina Antoniou, Climate Policy & Projects Assistant

I am proud to be part of the Climate-smart Healthcare team and support policy advocacy in the vital area of European healthcare decarbonisation.

I started my career as a respiratory physician in Greece. After obtaining my speciality title, I migrated to the UK, where I worked in the NHS for five years. During that time, I witnessed first-hand the dramatic impact of air pollution and climate change on human health, both personally and professionally.

My strong desire to ensure a healthy environment for myself, my family, and my patients prompted a gradual shift in my interest from clinical to preventive medicine, particularly towards public health policies related to climate change. With the help of my family and friends, I was able to embark on a career change, starting with a Master's course in Public Health at EHESP in Paris, France.

As the first international NGO to publish a comprehensive roadmap and a toolkit supporting the timely decarbonisation of the healthcare sector, Health Care Without Harm caught my eye. I was impressed by their mission and work, mainly because they put healthcare at the heart of this effort, thus leading by example. Being a part of this team is a real privilege and an excellent opportunity to put my research and advocacy skills into practice.

Outside work, my favourite pastimes are amateur astronomy, philosophy, dancing, and of course, engaging in discussions about the importance of clean air and a healthy environment for all!
