Joint intervention at SAICM Open Ended Working Group meeting

Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) Europe is currently attending the Open Ended Working Group 2 (OEWG) meeting of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider the implementation, development and enhancement of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals ahead of the International Conference on Chemicals Management in September 2015.

Today, the OEWG discussed the implementation of the health sector strategy. HCWH and HEAL made a Joint Intervention to highlight existing work and propose steps forward. This highlighted HCWH's global work on phasing out harmful chemicals in healthcare settings through the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network (GGHH), and raised additional points that the health sector strategy should incorporate.

"A lot of great work has been done so far in implementing sound chemicals management in the health sector but we need more active involvement from health ministries and other global organisation to move the health sector strategy forward," stated Laurel Berzanskis, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Policy Officer for HCWH Europe.
